Magnetic & power systems built for critical, demanding missions

American Maglev Technology develops, integrates, and tests electromechanical, energy, and defense systems. Founded in 1994, we bring engineering partners together to turn hard technical requirements into hardware that can be measured and improved.

What We Do

Picture1.png
Power & Energy Systems

We investigate superconducting transmission, magnetic energy storage, transformers, and power conditioning for applications with demanding power density or response requirements. American SuperMagnetics advances the related conductor manufacturing and commercialization roadmap.

Passive Magnetic & Electromagnetic Systems

We design motors, couplings, propulsion, and braking systems where force, speed, and reliability matter. Our work connects electromagnetic models to integrated hardware and full scale testing.

Mission-Critical Defense Programs

We assemble multidisciplinary teams for naval and other federal R&D, combining materials, thermal design, controls, fabrication, and test planning around a defined mission need.

Evidence from the field

Maglev test platforms — Demonstration tracks in Edgewater, Florida, at Old Dominion University, and in Powder Springs, Georgia informed AMT’s later magnetic systems work.

Rail energy recovery — AMT installed double layer capacitor units on 27 Portland TriMet light rail vehicles under a 2012 federal program, capturing braking energy for reuse during acceleration.

Passive jet blast deflector — A full scale panel passed survivability testing at NAS Patuxent River in February 2025. Representative system and shipboard validation remain the next steps.

Magnetic test sled brake — A 2026 test demonstrated high-speed brake entry at the Supersonic Naval Ordnance Research Track (SNORT) in Lakehurst, CA.

See Programs and Results for the test stage and next decision in each program.
